The Blue & Cream quilt I've been working on the past couple of months has been completed. Now that it's been given to it's very special recipient, I can share some pictures.
For the center applique' I chose Bluebirds representing Happiness to sit amongst a vase of simple flowers. I auditioned design elements from a few favorite traditional applique blocks and freehand drew the final pattern onto paper.
Then I created a Lattice border around the applique' block by sewing those 76 Indian Hatchet blocks together. Lattice work to allow dreams and sunshine in and to keep all the weeds of worry out.
The final pieced border was created using 148 hourglass blocks sewn in a "tumbling" order. I chose this design to symbolize no longer to watch the clock, for when tipped on their sides, deadlines stop and only the memories are kept inside.
I had to take the final picture from the top of my staircase, I apologize for the cropping on the right side of the picture.
If you have not already guessed, this quilt was made as a Retirement gift.
It was presented to someone my husband has very high regard and respect for.
Wishing you and your loved ones a Healthy and Happy New Year!
