Klosjes from the Netherlands & Botanical Block

Above is my September block for the Botanical Album sew along.
The next block will be announced HERE on Saturday.

I received a very exciting package in the mail from Ingrid of Supergoof Quilts.

It contained Klosjes templates that I ordered. (for a future project)

These templates will allow you to create tiny klosjes or Spool blocks that measure approximately 2.5" finished. The design of these templates is super clever, allowing you to mark inside the seam allowances for hand piecing and fussy cutting your fabrics.

Ingrid also has templates for tiny tumblers/thimbles and diamonds. To see her beautiful work with these templates you can visit her blog HERE, and HERE.
She has a TRANSLATE button on her blog, (you will have to scroll down a bit) on the right side bar to find it.

Ingrid's blog is always filled with inspiration, amazing quilts in progress and lovely pictures of everyday life in her beautiful homeland. It's always an adventure when visiting her blog!

Apple Season

BUTTERFLY

We took our grandson apple picking last weekend.
Young children have a way of turning any outing into a joyous adventure.
He thought he might need some help so he brought along the perfect friend for the job. Fireman Kevin is a very good tree climber.

And his Papa gathered up an Apple Picker to assist him as well.

Here is Alex taking inventory of what was gathered (so far)

We finished the day in celebration by making a homemade Apple Pie.

Although Summer weather has decided to overstay her welcome here, I am already embracing the Fall season. Wishing you a wonderful start to Autumn!

Dutch Treats and Spooky Quilts ... Oh My

DAUPHIN

INLAY

Here is our volunteer Team hard at work this week setting up a new and exciting Quilt Exhibit "Midnight in the Garden of the Quilt"
This special event is curated and presented by Polly Fogle Mello.
(can you see the snakes slithering down the sides of this baltimore style quilt?)

Take a walk down the dark side of quilting with Polly Mello's Collection:
"Quilts That Go Bump in the Night"!
Here's a sneak peek of another one of the quilts on display.
How strange to see Buzzards as the birds of choice for this block.

The VA Quilt Museum is currently closed for Exhibit changes but will open again on Tuesday, September 20th. For more information about this quilt collection, Exhibit and Seminar click HERE and also HERE.

Do you own a Mourning Cloth/Quilt or really spooky Quilt?
I'd love to hear about it!

Happy September!

AWAKEN

My first little Dutch block for September.
We are having a heat wave here with temps in the high 90's this week.
YIKES, it sure doesn't feel like fall is around the corner any time soon.
I hope Jack Frost decides to AWAKEN from his slumber in the very near future. (grin)

I made progress on my Broken Dishes blocks for the swap that Barb Vedder is hosting. I am using several different red reproductions fabrics, but will only be sharing pictures of 1 of them here until after the swap. I don't want to ruin the surprise for others that are participating.

I hope you are having a happy and stitch filled start to September!
