Here is my 3rd completed block for Sarah's Revival.
This one isn't perfect, but it's definitely a "keeper".
I have affectionately named this my Texas Longhorn block. (grin)
So far I am very pleased with how dimensional the red batik fabrics look in these finished blocks.

Most of the quilt blocks that I re-purposed in the pictures of this post were made in 2001 or 2002. The English paper pieced blocks (hexagon star and hexie flower) I made back in 1998 the year I learned how to EPP.
About 8 or 9 years ago I decided to get creative with these old blocks and quilt fabrics. This is just a sampling of projects I came up with. As you can see tiny dolls and totes were a re-occurring theme. lol
Soon afterwards I became obsessed with creating miniature quilts and small scale quilt blocks.
My projects, like my sewing and quilting skills have continued to evolved over the years.
I look forward to looking back in another decade at how I've re-purposed my current blocks and fabrics.

I decided to bring some handwork along on my vacation this week.
When hubby informed me there would be "carry on" luggage only, I knew I had to do a litte prep work in advance.
I wasn't willing to have my applique' scissors confiscated so I pre-marked,cut and basted my block at home before leaving.
This block has narrow fern-like petals/leaves with lots of inside and outside curves to it. I've slowly worked my way around the block using needle turn applique'. As you can see in the picture below, I'm making good progress - just one small section and the center to turn before this block is completed.
I gathered the block up in my left hand while working, so the block is very wrinkled right now. Later this weekend when I return home I will give it a good pressing, square it up with my rotary cutter and post a picture of the finished block.
Whenever I see this block in my quilt - I will forever be reminded of Texas and Longhorns.

I've decided to combine 2 topics into one project this week.

After much deliberation, I decided to join in on Esther Aliu's 18 month sew along. Of course I have BillieBee to blame thank for bringing this project to my attention.
This compass is the center of the quilt and the assignment for month #1. (I'm sorry the picture's a little wonky)
There is an outer ring to add with tiny circle applique's and then this block will be complete. I'm working on that part while vacationing in Dallas TX this week. Good thing because Month #2 begins tomorrow.
I want to make this quilt using only fabrics I have on hand. The only exception will be the purchase of background fabric and (2) half yard cuts of purple reproduction prints that I need want for my applique' and pieced borders.

It's been a few weeks, but I'm finally back to hand piecing my diamond stars again for Scrap Basket Sundays hosted by Kim.
The striped print I used for this star was the left over fabric from my civil war Jane block A13 Starlight-Starbright.

Here is my quilt hanging as part of the Tribute to Jane Stickle exhibit hosted by Brenda Papadakis. (you can click the picture to enlarge it)
The exhibit took place last weekend at the Vermont Quilt Festival.
I feel so humbled, honored and appreciative for the opportunity to have been included in such a very special celebratory event.
Below is another picture of my quilt (and another Jane). That is Brenda standing to the right presenting part of her lecture.
I would like to extend a very special Thank You to Deborah Bingham, a very talented fellow Janiac for taking these pictures for me!

The Jane A. Stickle quilt is celebrating her 150th Anniversary this year.
I'm very thankful for Brenda's many years of dedication to promoting and bringing awareness to this very special quilt!

While at my local quilt shop recently, I was asked if I'd be interested in sewing together a shop sample quilt.
I was told it would be fast & easy to make and it definitely was.
Here is a picture of it being held up on the steps in front of Kelly Ann's Quilt shop .
Just look at this adorable fabric line, it's called Owl Wonderful. These cheerful prints and colors remind me of the Folk Art movement of the late 60's and early 70's. Owls were all the rage back then too.
The pattern is called Step Up from the Think Fast book by Swirly Girls Design. There are directions to make this in 4 sizes Lap to King. The one I made is a 62" x 72" Lap size quilt.
I made this entire quilt top in just 2 afternoons.
My 2 year old grandson kept pointing to the border fabric saying "Hoo Owz" Nana "Hoo Owz".
Needless to say after that - he will be receiving an Owl quilt from Nana. (grin)
