Dear Jane is off to be quilted

Last week I dropped my Dear Jane top off to be quilted! I brought it to Valerie Schlake, owner of VA Longarm home of A Needle Runs Thru It.

You can see Valerie in the picture above. (staring at the quilt for design inspiration) She and her team are amazing quilters and I have every confidence that I will love the finish work they do to my Modern Jane.

Here is a close up of one corner...I hope you can see the scallops I drew in the borders. (you can click on the picture to enlarge it) I'm very curious to see how Valerie quilts this border.

It feels wonderful to have this accomplishment behind me. I'm still working on my Civil War version and a special little 1930's spin-off of this quilt. Hopefully they will also be completed within a year.

Scrap Basket Sunday project

I'm late in posting because my computer was hacked on Friday.
Actually a social network that I belong to was hacked and I was one of thousands of members that were victimized.
I'm trying to "adjust" to the functions of my laptop while I wait to learn the extent of damage/loss my computer has endured. (extremely frustrating)

Here is the 2nd star I made using the scraps from my Civil War Jane quilt.

I thought it would be fun to show you the blocks in my quilt that reference each of the print fabrics for the star blocks that I make.

The block in my Jane quilt was B-12 Starflower.
I love this brown & red print fabric.
Hopefully I will have several of these stars completed for next Sunday.

Dear Jane assembled

Here is a picture of my Modern Jane quilt top (trying to hang onto) my flannel wall. The only thing missing in the picture is the outside borders. You will see that once I get my top back from the Longarm studio in a few weeks.

I will be off line later today thru Friday.
Wishing you all a very Happy & Productive week!

Scrap Basket Sunday

Some of you may have noticed the new button added to my sidebar last week. I've decided to link up with Kim for Scrap Basket Sundays.

Hard to tell in the picture above, but the background of this star block has a very pretty yet subtle pattern to it.

Another new project???? Well, yes and no. I am using up all of the scraps left over from my Civil War Dear Jane blocks to make these star blocks. Many of the fabrics for this quilt (still in progress) are extremely precious to me. They were given to me by special friends, most of whom sent fabric, emotional support and love while I was dealing with the toughest part of my cancer recovery a few years ago.

I have a couple more blocks prepped for English Paper piecing. Once I finish these I think I'm going to switch to traditional hand piecing with freezer paper templates. Same cutting process but less basting involved.

And now that I've finished the Modern Dear Jane that I created for teaching, I'm ready to get back to my special Dear Jane quilt.

Fabulous Fabric Win from Minick & Simpson!

I am a HUGE fan of everything designed by Minick & Simpson so imagine how happy I was to learn that I won a Honeycomb pack of their upcoming fabric line called Midwinter Reds!

My package arrived today and in addition to my Honeycomb prize Laurie & Polly included several yards of fabric from their new line as well. I already know what I'm going to make with this very generous gift.

In case you didn't know - I love RED fabrics and quilts! That's why last week I couldn't resist the new Pattern A is for Apples they designed for this new line.

It's available to purchase from their site as an instant download.
They have a new book coming out as well.
I can tell by the cover that I'll have no problem finding a project to make using my stash of Indigo Crossings fabric they recently designed.

I am one very happy Quilter today!
And YES... I finally passed that darn kidney stone yesterday!
I'd like to thank everyone for all the well wishes.
Now I'm finally able to get back to assembling my Jane quilt!

hugs,

DELAYS...Delays...

I planned to show you my "Big Reveal" finished quilt top today or tomorrow. Unfortunately, a trip to the Emergency room on Tuesday evening set me off track with a different big reveal....a Kidney Stone!

Armed with a few potent medications; I've been sent home to hopefully pass this darn thing. I've been too miserable/uncomfortable to stand or even sit up straight for more than a few minutes at a time. So the plan to assemble my quilt top has been temporarily placed on hold.

Above is a picture that I took last weekend after sewing the final 7 blocks of my quilt. The very last block I made was Papa's Star, dedicated to my husband Todd - the proud, wonderful Papa of our 2 year old grandson.

And here is what these blocks look like on my virtual quilt wall.
(you can click on it for a bigger view)

And those final empty triangle spots??
Those blocks are done too. I was getting ready to upload them when my kidney attack happened. So for now they will remain blanks until I'm ready for my final reveal of my Dear Jane quilt!

Please send positive thoughts my way. If I don't pass this stone by tomorrow I will be back to the hospital on Saturday.

A positive note: I have my DIL here to help me and a laptop to keep me somewhat distracted thru this ordeal.
So although uncomfortable, I'm still very blessed!

Last week's final wave of little Janes...

Here are the blocks I finished up last week. In addition to these I also completed LS8 triangle "Northern Lights".

Here is what my progress looked like by the time I was done:

Pretty good progress for me - I was very happy.
But wait there's MORE...I spent the entire weekend on Jane as well.
I'll have the grand reveal for you all in just a couple of days!

Wishing you all a Happy & Productive week!

exhausted but happy....
