Happy Spring....

LILY

CASTLE WINDOW

It was snowing this weekend and today it's sunny and 74 degrees outside.
My blocks this week are a bit reflective of this week's weather - a bit all over the place.

In addition to these Spring themed Dutch Treat blocks, I finally completed my first block of the "Let it Snow" BOM by Buttermilk Basin. Wool Applique' on a cotton background fabric. This was quick and fun to stitch.

I also worked on 4 more blocks for the 1857 Album Quilt.

The oval seeds still need to be stitched in the corners of each block.
That will be my task for tomorrow evening.

Wishing you a very Happy & Productive Spring!

Liberty Tree Show & Tell for SVBAQ

This is my Liberty Tree of the United States block for the Shenandoah Valley Botanical Album Sew Along. (SVBAQ)

Each of the "apples" on the tree represents a State in our country's Union in 1858. A total of 35 Apples/States. Esther Blair Matthew's created this block to voice her pride and patriotism for her country.

I enjoyed fussy cutting most of the apples that I stitched onto my Liberty Tree.

My thoughts would wander back to Esther as I stitched this block. The country she loved was unraveling, there were rumors and rallys in her state and in others beckoning countrymen to seek succession from the Union.

Although women did not voice opinions of politics during this time, Esther's block spoke clearly of her political view and love of country.

There are a lot of fabulous Liberty Tree blocks submitted already this month for Show & Tell. To see them all - please stop by the SVBAQ Sew Along blog HERE.

Sarah Fielke

I am just beginning the Sarah Fielke BOM.
This wonderful program began in February.
I'm a little late to the party - well sort of but not really!

5 years ago I did not make a Jubilee quilt to commemorate my 50th birthday.
I was pleasantly distracted that year by the upcoming birth of my first grandchild.
Today is my birthday and this is the quilt project I have chosen to mark the journey of my 55th year. I love piecework and applique and this quilt has both.

I am using a collection of Cotton Lawn fabrics, something I've never sewn with before. They have a beautiful hand/feel to them.
I'm sprinkling in a few batiks in shades of coral & pink because they work well with these thinner lawns. (and because I love this color combination)

We are to make a total of 24 Star blocks over the next 10 months.
I've chosen to make 6 each of the blocks shown below.
All of the fabrics are cut for these stars, just not sewn together yet.

If I manage to catch up and stay on task, I will have this quilt top completed 2 months before my next birthday.
