Layer Cake Mystery Sew Along in May

I am in need of some FAST and EASY Summer quilts. So I've decided to offer a few FREE monthly "Mystery Quilt" Sew-alongs using pre-cuts. The Mystery Quilt I came up with for May requires the use of a Layer Cake.

May's project is going to be the easiest Mystery quilt. Just like it states on the button - Easy as 1,2,3. Each wednesday I will post part of the cutting and sewing instructions for this quilt.

"Easy Summer Breeze" will finish at a minimum size of 72" x 84".
Materials you will need:
* ONE Layer Cake or (42) 10" squares of fabric from your stash.
* 4 yards of a contrasting fabric. (for your background and binding)

I am using ONE Layer Cake (La Belle Fleur) plus 4 yards of Kona White (for background and binding)

Here are the instructions for week #1.
From background fabric cut 42 10" squares to pair with your 42 Layer Cake squares.

Place one of your Layer Cake squares (face up) and lay a background square on top of it. (the right side of the patterns will be facing each other)

Pin these squares together carefully. You will sew around all 4 sides of this block pair using a 1/4" seam allowance. (You can see pictures of both sides of this block pair below)

It's OK to sew out to the edges of each side if you need to.
Once you have sewn all of your pairs together - you will have completed your first week's assignment.

If you'd like to sew along with me on your blog, please feel free to copy the button on my sidebar and my html link below it. I'm going to try and install a LINK UP widget before next wednesday for those that wish to link together once a week for Show & Tell!

every quilt tells a story....
